A trip to to County Down to see a favourite species

Black Redstart, Killough, Co. Down
As with the rest of the British Isles the severe winter weather continues! Despite icy roads I travelled south to the County Down coast on a day off work.
For the past few weeks a favourite bird of mine, a Black Redstart, has taken up residence in the small coastal town of Killough.
I arrived at the harbour in bright sunny conditions and it only took a few minutes to locate the bird on the rocky shore. It took a little longer though for the bird to approach close enough for a few record shots, whilst I lay on the frost covered boulders.
I later visited nearby St Johns Point to be treated to close views of a Woodcock flying alongside my car before it dropped into a small wood. Woodcock is still a species I want to photograph, but given the poor recent weather I decided it better not to risk disturbing it.
