Great Crested Grebe at Sunset

Great Crested Grebe at Sunset

Lough Neagh has an internationally important breeding population of this species. Also known as the Satin Bird and it was hunted close to extinction as its feathers were so prized by the fashion industry in the 19th century. It's decline was instrumental in the formation of the conservation movement.
